First Week Done!

First week of prac has been done and dusted. OMG! What an intense week!! It was slow to start with because there was two days of professional development (pupil free) but so much information to take in. Then these last 3 days it's been, BAM, get in, get to know the students and classes, know what I'm teaching, plan my teaching, I even have MARKING this weekend!!!!! It's unbelievable. This time last year, on my first prac, I was sitting meekly in the back of the classroom observing my supervisor. Today, I was team-teaching! Such a difference. But that's what happens when you get to your last year of uni and 3rd practical. They expect more.

Most of my day was fabulous. The classes were great, they were learning stuff and participating and it was fabulous. The year 8 boys class..... yea.. I told my supervisor I want to team-teach that class for a while first. The others I feel confident in taking.. that one not so much. I can do individual work with, that's not a problem... but when they're all together... Holy Moly, great god Thor, help me find my strength to not boil over. They're tough. Really tough. They don't like school, they don't want to do English and they certainly don't want to pay attention. However, this isn't all of them.... I think there is about 5 who are quite happy to do the work quietly. The rest however..... let's just say I'm glad it's Friday!

Overall, this week has been great and I love the school I'm in. Can't wait to see what the next 3 weeks bring!

Teaching!

I decided to start another blog..... one purely dedicated to my experience about teaching. I have very little experience. In fact, I'm on my third prac right now. I have another one, and then I'll be a qualified teacher. This blog is going to be about what works in my classroom, what doesn't work, when I feel like pulling my hair out and saying "WHY did I choose to be a teacher again?" and when things go so right I'm like "OMG I LOVE MY JOB!!!!"

Things you should know:
I'm young..... early 20s.
I'm teaching High School.... English and Ancient History.
Sometimes I get frustrated by the boring things in teaching.
Sometimes I misspell things.
I believe that all students can be smart if they give themselves a chance!
Giving others the gift to love learning for the rest of their lives is awesome!

Watch this space. Since I'm on prac, updates will be happening about my days!
